🐝 BeeBrief No. 2 – “Buzzing into September”
BeeBrief – Sept 9
🧠 Buzzwell's Hive Mind Lab
“Buzzbee here. Buzzwell just tried to explain Varroa mites with a sock puppet. It was both educational and deeply concerning.”
📽️ Watch it all in action at PutneyRidgeApiary.com, featuring awkward bee moments, real science, and inappropriate levels of enthusiasm from Buzzwell.
📊 In the Hive – September Notes
The queen’s taking it easy, fewer eggs, smaller brood nest. She’s basically on a honey fueled sabbatical.
Drones? Facing near eviction. Sorry fellas, time to pack your wings.
Nectar flow is slowing, but the resin/propolis crew is still working overtime. No rest for the sticky.
Bees are extra defensive now (translation: they’re hangry and not in the mood for small talk).”
🌼 Forage in bloom: goldenrod, buckwheat, asters, clovers, loosestrife, knotweed, sweetclover, thistles.
🏋️♂️ Buzzbee’s Hive Hype Buzzloaf’s Chill Zone
“Buzzbee here. Remember: abs are built in the apiary, not the gym. Each jar lift is a rep. Respect the process.”
Buzzbee’s Advice: If you can’t out-fly your problems, out-flex them. (Disclaimer: doesn’t apply to skunks.)
Each colony needs a honey stash of 70–90 lbs, we are giving those boxes a little tip and heft, and remember: the stronger the buzz, the heavier the jar!
Post-harvest snack time! If the honey combs are looking a little light, we’re topping them up with a 2:1 sugar syrup cocktail, basically a latte for bees.
We’re taking notes on who’s packing the most wings and which brood patterns are trending this season, think of it as the hive’s very own social media report.
No royal shake-ups needed for now, the queens are chilling like it’s spring break, so save the requeening drama for later.
🛋️ Buzzloaf’s Chill Zone – September Snooze Report
“Buzzloaf here, apparently, September is when humans start worrying about frost and we start worrying about napping mid-shift. Spoiler: I excel at both.
This month, Hive 4 moved in with Hive 2, think of it as a bee-style roommate situation. Drones are still negotiating couch space, but the snacks are plentiful, so morale is surprisingly high. Nectar flow is dwindling, but don’t worry, the resin/propolis crew is still grinding. I mean, someone has to be the responsible one around here.
Varroa mites are throwing a peak-season party, so the humans are hovering with sugar shakes and treatments. And yes, we bees are a little defensive, translation: hangry. I, however, remain calm, collected, and firmly in charge of snack patrol.
Quick PSA from yours truly: if you see a bee loafing around on a bucket, she’s not slackingshe’s conducting crucial research. Fieldwork, people. Respect the grind.”

😂 Scandal in the Hive
Scandal in the Hive: Sources report drones were caught napping mid-shift… again. Rumor has it they blame pollen smoothies and overly long union meetings. Meanwhile, the website has merged all our blog posts and Hive Mind Lab antics into one buzzing category called Buzz, your one-stop shop for chaos, gossip, and honey-fueled antics.
Here’s the breakdown of the Buzz subcategories:
Breaking News with Beatrix Buzzwing – the scoop, hot off the comb.
BeeBrief – stickier than your average newsletter.
The Buzz Bros Go Off Comb – where the bros lose it and you gain laughs.
Hot off the Comb – updates faster than a bee on espresso.
WaggleFit with Buzzbee – fitness, flexing, and very serious bee business.
Buzzloaf’s Chill Zone – lounging, loafing, and general laziness (queen-approved).
Hive Mind Lab – science, experiments, and occasional sock puppets.
Watch ‘em at PutneyRidgeApiary.com or PutneyRidgeRawHoney.com (We’re fancy: two URLs, zero chill, and one drone who insists on wearing a tiny scarf.).
🐍 Ask the Hive
Q: “Do bees ever get embarrassed?”
A: “Only when they land on the wrong hive and try to play it cool. Happens more than you think.”
Submit your questions at our FAQ page and get possibly correct, probably biased, always entertaining answers in the next BeeBrief.
🐝 That’s all for this edition of BeeBrief
The only newsletter stickier than its subject matter.
Remember: If you see a bee on your bucket, she’s not stealing, she’s conducting a field study. With her face.
– Buzzwell, Buzzbee, & Buzzloaf
“Until next time, keep your thorax fluffed, your snacks close, and your naps uninterrupted because a well rested drone is a dangerous (but mostly lazy) bee.”
