Rain Delay at the Hive

Rain may be good for the flowers, but don't tell that to the workers.

During today's inspection, more than fifty honey bees gathered outside the hive entrance waiting for a break in the weather. While it may look unusual to new beekeepers, this is perfectly normal behavior. Honey bees avoid flying in steady rain because wet wings make flying difficult and can leave them stranded away from the colony.

Of course, around here we like to imagine something else is happening.

The Buzz Bros have officially declared a rain delay.

Some are filing complaints with Hive HR.

Others are threatening to transfer to Arizona.

One insists he accidentally signed up for The Deadliest Catch.

Thankfully, cooler heads usually prevail. As soon as the rain eases, these dedicated workers get right back to collecting nectar and caring for the hive.

Even on the wettest days, the hive never truly stops working, it simply waits for the right moment to get back in the air.
