Rain Delay
Not every memorable day in the apiary involves opening hives or harvesting honey.
Sometimes it's simply noticing a single bee trying her best.
After a summer shower, I spotted one of our workers upside down on wet wood outside the hive. Every attempt to stand ended with another tumble.
Then another worker bee walked over, touched antennae for a moment, and wandered back into the hive as if she'd completed an inspection.
Eventually, with a little persistence and a little help, the soaked bee made it safely home.
These are the moments that remind me why I enjoy keeping bees.
Not because every day is dramatic...
…but because every now and then, you witness a tiny story that probably happens thousands of times, yet almost no one ever sees.
